Café UFO in Ella was conceived as a sustainable response to the increasing number of haphazard developments that threaten the scenic and cultural character of the area. Inspired by the legendary “Dandu Monara Yanthraya”, the mythical flying machine of King Ravana, the design interprets the form and spirit of a “flying peacock.”

The structure emphasizes vernacular architecture and eco-friendly construction, primarily using responsibly sourced rose gum timber, reclaimed wood, and thatched roofing. Interior elements incorporate cinnamon sticks, reed products, and upcycled materials, creating a warm rustic ambience. Built with local materials and craftsmanship, the project strengthens community engagement while preserving the ecological and cultural identity of Ella.
